English Uniforms

Postby Kev the jinx » Sun Jun 14, 2009 8:09 pm

So I have painted my first Nappy English.

I quite enjoyed it, issues about plastic moulding quality aside but I have one question.

Can I paint the trousers other colours apart from white? I dont really like painting white as it takes a lot of effort and still tends to look sh*t.

I have seen piccies on the web of other models where they are wearing tan or even brown trousers. That would make life a lot easier and would look better in my opinion as well. Can I do that? If so what sort of percentage can I do in other colours? The less sets of white trousers I have to shade the more likely I am to get enough painted to be usable for a game before i get fed up with them.

Also what skirmish level rules are out there? I know about Sharps practice, which I will try and pick up at Claymore. What about Songs of Drums and Shakos from Ganesha? I have read spome good reviews and you only need about 20 models a side so though that might be a good place to start as that would only take me about 6 months to paint up the models for

I know virtually nothing about this period but want to give it a bash, albeit at skirmish level. All help greatly appreciated.

Campaign trousers could be anything from dark grey through brown to a very pale blue/grey. Those in Spain would use local undyed cloth for new issue and repairs, so a mixture of grey and brown etc. What is certain is that white didn't stay that colour after a few days in the field, so I wouldn't worry about making them clean and neat, unless that is how you want them to look.

BTW - British, not English, you wouldn't like it if I called your green-skinned thingys something inaccuarte now, would you :?:

Sorry Alan, I just cant do it.

They have to be done right, or there is not point in doing it.

Dont worry though, I am still open for those other types of games, just as long as you promise not to tell anyone.
